NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Tuesday Aligarh Muslim University and said it has worked to strengthen India’s relations with many countries in the world over the past 100 years.
Speaking at the Muslim University of Aligarh (AMU) centennial celebrations, he said that research conducted in AMU in UrduArabic and Persian, research on Islamic literature gives new energy to India’s cultural relations with the entire Islamic world.
“The way AMU has helped society during the coronavirus crisis is unprecedented: free tests, construction of isolation rooms, plasma banks and a great contribution the PM CARES Fund it shows the seriousness of fulfilling its obligations to society, “Prime Minister Modi said via video conference.

The Prime Minister said that the history of education attached to AMU buildings is a valuable heritage of India.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi released a postage stamp as part of AMU’s centennial celebrations. This is the first time that PM Modi has participated in a program at the Muslim University of Aligarh.
AMU became a University in 1920, through a Law of Indian Legislative Council elevating Mohammedan Anglo Oriental (MAO) College to Central University status. MAO College was created in 1877 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, according to the PMO statement.
The University has a campus spread over 467.6 hectares of land in the city of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. It also has three off-campus centers in Malappuram (Kerala), Murshidabad-Jangipur (west bengal) and Kishanganj (Bihar).
