The new set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the ministry on Tuesday outlines various activities to be carried out at the point of entry and in the community for all international passengers who have traveled or transited through the UK in the last 4 weeks. All passengers disembarking in India will be subjected to a mandatory RT-PCR test and also a spike gene based RT-PCR test if they test positive.
In case of positive cases, the patient will continue in a separate isolation facility coordinated by the respective state health authorities. If sequencing is consistent with the current virus strain circulating in the country, the ongoing treatment protocol will be followed, including home isolation or facility-level treatment depending on the severity of the case.
Those who test negative with RT-PCR tests at the airport will be advised to self-quarantine at home.
The state passenger manifest for flights from the UK that landed at various international airports in India over the past four weeks will also be relayed by the Immigration Office to state governments and the integrated disease surveillance program.
The list of international travelers who arrived in India in the last two weeks will be shared with the respective state or district surveillance officer, who will ensure daily monitoring of passengers under observation for 28 days from the arrival date.
All community contacts, without exception of travelers who have tested positive, will undergo institutional quarantine in separate quarantine centers and will be tested between the 5th and the 10th.
International travelers from the UK who arrived in India from November 25 to December 8 (the first and second week of November 25) will be contacted by district surveillance officers and advised to monitor their health. If any of them develop symptoms, they will be tested by RT PCR and subject to the protocols established in the POE.
