Cricketer Suresh Raina’s management team has said he was “not aware of local schedules and protocols” after he was found among 34 people at a nightclub in Mumbai, allegedly in violation of safety rules amidst the pandemic.
The deadline for closing pubs and nightclubs in Mumbai, set by the city’s civic body, is 11:30 pm. The nightclub where police went to check was open until 4 a.m., police said. A case has been filed for allegedly keeping the nightclub, Dragonfly, open near the airport beyond the deadline and for failing to follow pandemic safety rules such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing.
“Suresh was in Mumbai for a session that lasted late into the night and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner before catching his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local schedules and protocols. He immediately complied with the procedures established by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident. He always respects the rules and laws established by the governing bodies with the utmost respect and will continue to do so in the future as well, “said Mr. Raina. the management team said in the statement.
Shortly after the raid on the nightclub, Mumbai police tweeted that of the 34 people, 19 were from Delhi and Punjab, including some celebrities.
