The first shipment of the coronavirus vaccine will arrive in Delhi in the last week of December, sources told India Today. However, there is no clarification on when exactly the coronavirus vaccine will be given to people in the national capital to protect them against Covid-19.
The development has come as preparations are underway to train health workers in the national capital who will administer the vaccines to people once they are available. In Delhi, a mass training campaign for 3,500 health workers has started.
the The Delhi government has identified 609 cold chain points in the national capital for the storage of vaccine doses. Starting Monday, health workers, who have been linked to the vaccination process, would receive a one-day training.
Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital, with the largest storage facility, Loknayak Hospital, Kasturba Hospital, Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, GTB Hospital and even Mohalla Clinics, will be used as cold storage chains for the largest campaign of vaccination.
For the training program, the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) has selected three physicians as “vaccination officers”. They will train more vaccination officers, who will then pass it on to other health workers at the district level in the national capital.
“They will receive training and then they will train the vaccinators at the district level in Delhi. MAMC is the largest medical school with an important role in dispatching vaccination officers, “said Dr. Pragya Sharma, head of community medicine at MAMC.
It should be noted that a team of 6 vaccination agents will observe the entire exercise at each point of the cold chain. The point of the cold chain will need at least 3 rooms.
