BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has planned to impose quarantine rules for people coming from other states amid growing concerns that a new variant of coronavirus will be found in passengers coming from the United Kingdom (United Kingdom).

“The government is considering quarantine rules for those entering Karnataka from other states after a new SARS CoV2 mutation was detected in a passenger who returned from Britain to Chennai.” Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa hinted.

However, the prime minister said there is no need to impose a night curfew in the state. He said there will be a ban on New Years celebrations.

“The government is taking all precautionary measures. Prime Minister Modi has asked the states to be on alert and we will take all measures to stop the viurs,” added the CM.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Sudhakar said officials from the Union Health Department have asked to consider the night curfew. “We will talk to CM and take a call,” he said.

The Maharashtra government on Monday declared a nightly curfew in the state’s municipal corporate areas from December 22 to January 5 as a precautionary measure amid mounting fears about the spread of a new variant of the coronavirus in Britain.
