Mumbai:
A pub in Mumbai was raided early this morning for allegedly violating Covid rules, after which a case was brought against 34 people, including celebrities and pub staff.
Cases have been filed against 27 clients and seven staff members.
The case was recorded for allegedly keeping the pub, near the airport in the Sahar area, open beyond the allowed time limit and for not following the rules of the pandemic, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
The current time limit for Mumbai pubs to stay open, set by the city’s civic body, is 11:30 pm. The pub in question was open until 4 a.m., police said.
The Mumbai Police Special Squad conducted raids around 2:50 am.
Maharashtra on Monday imposed an overnight curfew at 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. to January 5 in Mumbai and other cities, and announced new quarantine rules for arrivals from Europe and the Middle East, in light of a strain of fast-spreading coronavirus that has emerged in the United Kingdom and caused several nations, including India, to temporarily ban flights from that country. Essential services, such as the supply of vegetables and milk, will not be affected. However, no more than five people can gather at a given location during this time.
It was on October 4 that more than four lakhs of restaurants, bars and hotels in the state reopened after a lapse of six months, as part of the fifth phase of easing the COVID-19 restrictions, called “Unlocking 5”.
