Bangalore:
Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday asked members of his BJP party not to comment on rumors of the JD (S) merging with the party, even as JD (S) leader HD Kumaraswamy dismissed those reports and expressed his confidence in coming to power independently.
“My real policy will start in 2023,” Kumaraswamy said, asserting that no one can finish the JD (S).
Amid rumors of a possible merger between the JD (S) and the BJP, both leaders had also issued statements on Sunday dismissing them as far from the truth.
“JD (S) is a party created by former Prime Minister Deve Gowda and former Prime Minister Kumaraswamy is their leader. At the time they are trying to strengthen the party and build it across the state, there is talk of merging of that match with another party is like insulting them, “Yediyurappa said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said that neither he nor others should speak about these issues, while maintaining that JD (S) has cooperated on the issue of removing the president of the legislative council.
“… in the next few days they can give us cooperation if necessary, but at the time they are building their party, the talks about their merger are not correct. There are still two and a half years until the elections.
They will build their party; we will build ours. So no one, including those of our party, should talk about those things, “he added.
There have been rumors and reports in certain sections of the media for a couple of months about the merger, with Mr Kumaraswamy meeting Mr Yediyurappa twice personally at his official residence and the alleged weakening of JD’s position ( S) towards the ruling party.
Furthermore, JD (S) extended its support for the approval of the land reform bill in the council after initially opposing it and the regional party’s support for the BJP in its motion of no confidence against the council president added to the speculation.
Dismissing any merger proposals before him, Kumaraswamy, attacking Congress and its leader Siddaramaiah, stated today that his goal is to bring JD (S) to power independently in 2023.
“I have already spoken about the position of JD (S). It is not about merging JD (S) with any other party until we are alive. We are not here for power. For the last ten years, we have worked in the opposition “Kumaraswamy said.
“No one can finish JD (S). We have thousands of workers … aiming to come to power independently (in 2023) and protect the interests of our workers, we will work together. My real policy will start in 2023.” added.
