Nighttime curfew in Maharashtra from tomorrow until January 5; Mandatory institutional quarantine for those traveling from Europe, the Middle East

The Uddhav Thackeray government has decided to impose night curfew in Maharashtra for the next 15 days. The state government announced Monday that a nightly curfew will be imposed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Tuesday night (December 22).

The government has imposed 14 days of mandatory institutional quarantine for those returning to the state from Europe and the Middle East. In addition, returnees from other countries arriving in the state will have to be quarantined.

Development occurs in view of the emergence of a new COVID-19 emerging strain in the UK.

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed the state via social media platforms on Sunday, saying that wearing masks will remain mandatory in the state for the next six months. He called on everyone to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 by taking precautions such as physically distancing themselves, wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, washing hands, etc.

All flights connecting the UK and India will be suspended from Wednesday to December 31, the Civil Aviation Ministry said on Monday. This suspension will start after 11:59 p.m. on December 22, and consequently flights from India to the UK will also be temporarily suspended during that period, he added.

“As a precautionary measure, passengers arriving from the UK on all transits
flights (Flights that have taken off or flights that arrive in India before December 22 at 11:59 p.m.) must be subject to mandatory RT-PCR testing upon arrival at the airports in question, “he mentioned.
