Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took advantage of the debacle of the congressional elections in recent civic polls on Saturday, saying the Muslim League (IUML) was making decisions in his favor, a claim refuted by the United Democratic Front that alleged that the CM was playing the communal card.
Vijayan, in a Facebook post, said that the “deplorable situation” of the United Democratic Front (UDF) led by Congress is due to the “shamelessness of Congress” to do anything for a few votes.
“It is a strange experience in politics for a political party to dictate who should lead another party. Such extraordinary and undemocratic things are happening in the UDF.
It appeared that the League would take over the leadership of the UDF after the results of the local body elections came out.
Has the League become a center for discussing the internal affairs of Congress and deciding who should lead Congress? ”Mr. Vijayan asked.
Mr. Vijayan stated that it was clear from statements by the League and congressional leaders that the IUML was able to persuade the Congress in Kerala to form an alliance with the communal parties, despite opposition from the national leaders in Congress.
Addressing a press meeting, Chennithala, after the UDF high-power meeting, claimed that the CPI (M) was trying to project the BJP as an opposition rather than the UDF.
“The LDF won 10,114 seats, while the UDF won 8,022 seats and the BJP 1,600. This election proved that the BJP will not survive in Kerala. They were only able to prove their presence in a few pockets.
The UDF is still going strong. But the CPI (M) is trying to project the BJP as an opposition instead of the UDF, “Chennithala said.
He said that the Front accepts that there were some shortcomings on its part.
“We will address them … we will correct these deficiencies and fight the corruption of this government,” Chennithala added.
IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty, who was also present at the press meeting, said the League had never interfered in the internal affairs of Congress.
“I would like to make it clear that we have never interfered in the affairs of the Congress party of his leadership. That was a cheap accusation. The prime minister is playing the common card,” alleged the IUML leader.
