Sky Sports’ fake crowd ‘trolls’ Leeds vs Manchester United

Manchester United and Leeds United met in the Premier League for the first time since February 2004 on Sunday and it was a magnificent afternoon for the hosts.

Two goals in the first three minutes from the unlikely source of Scott McTominay put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on track to just a second home win in the league this season.

Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof then extended United’s lead, before Liam Cooper retired one for the visitors, but United added to the misery with more goals in the second half.

There are many hard feelings between the two historic rivals and United fans would have loved what Sky Sports did when their team took the lead.

With no fans allowed in the stadium due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Sky Sports and other broadcasters have been using ‘fake’ crowd noise at matches.

That continued to be the case with United’s reception of Leeds and the announcer blatantly decided to poke fun at the whites and their performance.

Sky played the chant of “Leeds is falling apart again”, a chant that has been regularly adopted by rival fans who mock Leeds’ fate.

Since relegation in 2004, Leeds struggled to find their way back to the top flight, even spending time in the third tier of English football.

Those fights made the chant even more popular with rival fans and disliked by Leeds fans, so Sky’s antics certainly upset some feathers.
