Former India hitter Dilip Vengsarkar has urged the BCCI to send Rahul Dravid to Australia as a priority to help the Indian team deal with their hitting problems. Vengsarkar feels that Dravid’s coaching experience can help the Indian team in the absence of Virat Kohli, who will be heading home on paternity leave to be with his wife at the birth of their first child.

“The BCCI must bring Dravid to Australia to help the team. No one can better guide the batters on how to play the ball in motion under those conditions. His presence will be a great boost for the Indian team in the nets. In any case, the NCA has been closed due to Covid for the past nine months, leaving you with little to do, “Dileep Vengsarkar told the Times of India on Saturday.

Australian bowlers came up with one of their best bowling performances to restrict India to a record of 36 in the first test at Adelaide Oval, their lowest score in a test inning. Dravid has been a mentor and coach to Prithvi Shaw, who is in torrid form, as he leads the India Under-19 and India A teams.

“The Board can make better use of Dravid by using his services to help the national team, which will be without skipper Virat Kohli from now on (last three rounds).”

Vengsarkar emphasized that Dravid must be dispatched immediately, as he would have to serve the 14-day quarantine and then join the third trial team.

“Even if he has to serve a mandatory two-week quarantine period, he should be available to help the Indian team on the networks before the third test in Sydney, which will start on January 7,” Vengsarkar said.
