Experts believe that the worst stage for the country is probably over. The coronavirus spike in India occurred in mid-September, when 97,894 new cases were reported on September 16. Since then, new daily cases have dramatically decreased.

The case fatality rate in India, which measures the number of deaths versus the number of confirmed cases, has been consistently low since the start of the outbreak. It has remained below 4% throughout the pandemic.

Chennai is the fifth most affected country with 2.21,587 cases.
