Ramesh said his comments were based on a news article, adding that “some independent verification of the facts may have been in order.”
Metropolitan Additional Chief Magistrate Sachin Gupta heard the matter and closed the case against the leader of Congress after Doval accepted the apology.
The case, however, will continue against the magazine.
In his statement rendered to the court, Ramesh said: “I want to clarify that these statements or accusations were made drawing conclusions from an article that was published the day before in The Caravan magazine. As the case progressed, I realized that perhaps some verification may have been in order. ”
However, the general election was closed and the questions posed in the article seemed appropriate to be highlighted by making certain innuendo against you (Vivek) and your family.
“Therefore, I would like to offer my apologies to you and your family for any damage that the statements have caused. I also urge the INC to withdraw the press conference available on its website,” said the former Union minister.
Doval had claimed that the accusations made by the magazine and then repeated by Ramesh at a press conference were unfounded and false, and damaged his reputation in the eyes of his family and professional colleagues.
In his complaint, Doval had said that the magazine and Ramesh tried to “deliberately defame him” to “settle scores” with his father.
The Caravan, in an online article titled “The D Companies,” had said that Vivek Doval “runs a hedge fund in the Cayman Islands,” that it is “an established tax haven,” and that it was “registered just 13 days later. de Prime The government of Minister Narendra Modi demonetized all existing 500 and 1000 rupees banknotes in 2016. ”
According to the complaint, Ramesh had held a press conference in which he reiterated the “baseless and unfounded facts” recounted in the article.
Doval had alleged that the content of the article did not present “illegality” on its part, but the entire narrative was presented in a way that suggested “irregularities” to readers.
Regarding Ramesh, the complaint said that the press conference given by the leader of Congress was “beyond the mere narration of the article” and that he was already prepared and armed to launch an attack, “simply waiting for the publication of the article” . which could then provide a “smokescreen for the deliberate and targeted attack on the reputation of the author and his family.”
