Apple put Wistron, one of its largest contract manufacturers globally, on probation in India on Saturday. The development came after an independent Cupertino audit found that Wistron violated its Supplier Code of Conduct at its Kolar iPhone installation. Apple said Wistron will not receive any new business before it completes all corrective actions and that its progress will be “monitored” by Apple employees in conjunction with Apple’s independent auditors before it is released.

“Our primary goal is to ensure that all workers are treated with dignity and respect, and that they are adequately compensated,” Apple said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Wistron also admitted on Saturday that some workers at its Kolar iPhone manufacturing plant “did not receive correct or punctual pay,” and fired its vice president of India following an internal investigation.

“Since unfortunate events at our Narasapura facility, we have discovered that some workers were not paid correctly or on time. We deeply regret and apologize to all of our workers, “Wistron said in a statement, adding that” we are removing the vice president who oversees our business in India. We are also improving our processes and restructuring our teams to ensure that these problems do not recur. ”

Wistron said it was working hard to ensure that all workers were “fully compensated immediately.”
