Calcutta:
Congressional leader Trinamool (TMC) and former minister Madan Mitra said on Saturday that the party will organize a “grand gala” to express gratitude to the “traitors” whose departure has ensured that the party is “virus-free.”
Mitra’s remarks were made today after Mamata Banerjee’s former Cabinet Minister Suvendu Adhikari joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Union Interior Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah at a rally in Midnapore. Shah is on a two-day visit to West Bengal ahead of the State Assembly elections in 2021.
In his speech at the induction ceremony, Mr. Adhikari said: “When I was sick with Covid-19, the TMC that I had worked for for 21 years and had sacrificed so much never came to my aid and never valued my work while Amit Shah and the other BJP leaders have given me love and affection. “
Adhikari also wrote an open letter to TMC members alleging “extremely deep rot and unrest” within the party. He urged them to come together and start a new beginning. The letter read: “Our fight is to restore West Bengal to its glory.”
Speaking to ANI, Madan Mitra criticized Mr. Adhikari for his comments and asked him if the party had nothing for him for the past 10 years, why had Mr. Adhikari not raised his voice in the party and chosen for staying silent?
“I’m not surprised (that he joined BJP). It’s the basic character of some people. They told me that Suvendu said that Trinamool hasn’t done anything for the last 10 years. So who was the leader of Trinamool? The leader You were the minister, your brother is a deputy, your father is a deputy, so if Trinamool hasn’t done anything for the past 10 years, why did you keep quiet? Were you enjoying power? You should have come out and we He expelled. Now he says that Trinamool is the only culprit, so why did you remain silent for the last 10 years? “asked Mr. Mitra.
“Tonight we are going to have a great gala thanking them that now Trinamool is virus free. Now the challenge is direct. There will be no intermediaries between BJP and Trinamool, now it will be a direct fight. It will be a gala night for the workers to enjoy. Trinamool. Today there are no traitors, no paper tigers. ” Mr. Mitra added.
