BENGALURU: The Karnataka Government On Saturday, it decided to reopen schools and pre-universities that were closed due to the Covid-19 situation, for students of 10 and second year of the PUC (class 12) as of January 1. He also decided to start the Vidyagama program, which allows continuing education for students in classes six through nine.
Decisions were made at a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa on the reopening of PU schools and universities in the state.
He said the advice given by the state’s Technical Advisory Committee for Covid-19 on reopening schools was discussed in detail for about an hour.
They suggested starting classes 10 and 12 (second PUC) from January 1 and to provide education to students in classes six through nine through the Vidyagama program, he said.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said: “All were unanimously agreed … so it was agreed to start classes 10 and 12 from January 1 and Vidyagama for classes of six to nine students.”
In a tweet reporting the same, the prime minister added that a decision would be made on reopening schools for students from other classes after reviewing the situation for 15 days.
Both class 10 and second PUC are crucial as students will have to face board exams.
PU schools and universities have been closed since March, just before the national shutdown was first enforced to combat Covid-19.
Graduate and engineering colleges in the state reopened on November 17.
As of December 18, Karnataka had reported 9,07,123 Covid-19 infections, while the number of victims was 11,989.
