NEW DELHI: The Shiv Sena on Saturday he said there was no lobbying policy from Congress after Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to Uddhav Thackeray seeking welfare measures for Dalits and tribes in Maharashtra.
“If the Congress party has come up with an agenda that is in the interest of the people of Maharashtra and the state, then it should be welcomed. There are no lobbying policies,” said the Shiv Sena leader. Sanjay raut he said in Sonia’s letter.
Sonia had written to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra reminding him of the Common Minimum Program (CMP) of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government and seeking the implementation of certain measures for the welfare of the Dalits and Tribes.
The movement of the letter is significant as it may be the first time that Sonia has written to Uddhav Thackeray since the formation of MVA Government.
The Shiv Sena, Congress and the NCP came together after the assembly elections last year to form the MVA government in the state.
According to sources in Congress, Sonia in her letter of December 14, has demanded reservation in government contracts from SC / ST professionals to promote entrepreneurship among them.
He expressed confidence that the MVA government under Thackeray’s leadership will implement the CMP in letter and spirit, the sources added.
The budget allocation for the development of registered castes and tribes should be proportional to their participation in the population, he said.
The focus should be on bringing these communities on a par with the rest of society as soon as possible, Sonia said in the letter.
“… there must be legislative backing to use the funds allocated (for SC / ST schemes) during the same financial year,” he said.
Sonia Gandhi has also called for recruitment drives to fill the backlog of vacancies in reserved positions.
