Ruchi Gupta, appointed key by Rahul Gandhi, resigns from Congress and blames KC Venugopal for delays

The congressional party headache continues to grow as the deputy secretary in charge of the student wing, National Union of Students of India, Ruchi Gupta left the congressional party on Saturday due to “delays in organizational changes.”

Gupta, who is the latest in a long line of leaders to leave Congress, confirmed to the Hindustan Times that he has resigned from office and resigned from the national party. Congress has been fighting massive defections and internal dissension, with 23 top leaders calling for massive organizational reform. Repeated losses in the last elections, from the Bihar assembly to the local body elections, have left the party in trouble.

Acting President Sonia Gandhi will meet with party leaders on Saturday to discuss organizational changes, party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Friday.

Gupta blamed the general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal, known to be a close confidant of former party chief Rahul Gandhi. In his message, Gupta claims that Venugopal is responsible for the continued delays in organizational changes and the matter cannot always be escalated to the level of the party president.

“Dear all, I am writing to announce that I have resigned. As you know, important organizational changes have been pending for a long time: the national committee took 1 year 3 months; Orders from the state president have been pending for months. Many other state units are awaiting a shakeup to accommodate new activists. These continued delays from SG (O) are hurting the organization, but under the current circumstances, it is not possible to repeatedly climb to the Presidency of Congress. Therefore, the situation has become untenable, “he wrote in his resignation message.

Thank you all for your hard work, especially in these difficult times of the pandemic. I want to make sure that your hard work is not lost in the transition and I will send a report on each of you to Rahul ji. Best wishes for all your future endeavors, ”added Gupta.

HT reached out to Venugopal for a text message response, but did not immediately receive a response.

In his Hindu article on Saturday, Gupta said the party needs to address the issues of party organization, address grassroots connection and establish strong top-down leadership.

“None of the above can be done without a strong and interventionist president of Congress. Political parties, Congress in particular, are defined by both internal and external conflicts. Politics is dynamic and constantly opens and closes paths to power. Without a strong leader at the top to make and enforce decisions, the Party will continue to be pushed in different directions, ”Gupta wrote. “Furthermore, only the active facilitation of the President of Congress can create the space for substantive deliberation required at this time, both as a political process to bring everyone together and to form a political platform expansive enough to accommodate the historical position of the big tent of Congress ”.

He added that “this leadership can only be provided by Rahul Gandhi.” “This is not a flattering statement: if any other leader had to emerge in the party, he would have done so within the last year. Instead, different factions prefer the status quo rather than allowing one group to rise and upset the balance of power for all. Therefore, the organizing power continues to reside in Mr. Gandhi. So, the way to revive Congress and consolidate this power is the same: it is a complete and frontal exercise ”, adds Gupta.
