Second Serious Reaction to COVID-19 Vaccine Reported in US

In the last one, also in Alaska, a doctor began experiencing probable anaphylactic symptoms about 10 minutes after receiving the injection Thursday.

A second healthcare worker has experienced a severe reaction after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, authorities said Friday.

Both cases occurred in Alaska.

At the latest, a worker, identified only as a doctor, began experiencing probable anaphylactic symptoms about 10 minutes after receiving the injection Thursday in Fairbanks. Symptoms included swollen tongue, hoarse voice, and shortness of breath.

She received two doses of epinephrine at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital emergency department and was discharged about six hours later.

“Allergic reactions, while uncommon, can occur with drug injections and vaccines,” Medical Director Dr. Angelique Ramirez said in a statement.

“That is why our staff is trained and prepared to respond to any symptoms of anaphylaxis. Our employee is fine and was able to go home yesterday. ”

The hospital’s parent company, Foundation Health Partners, said the woman wanted to maintain her privacy, but issued a statement of her own. In it, the unidentified woman said she would encourage everyone to get vaccinated. He said he has seen the suffering and death of COVID-19 patients first hand, and his adverse reaction pales in comparison to what COVID can do to people.

The first serious reaction in the county came at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau on Tuesday. The health worker was hospitalized after suffering anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction.

Another worker at the same hospital experienced what state health officials considered a minor reaction the next day and the person did not require hospitalization.
