Innovations recognized by this award include VITALSENS, a technology platform for portable health monitoring devices, the “Arise” standing wheelchair for people with disabilities, and Shakti, India’s first indigenous microprocessor.
“Both government and industry have realized that disrupting the status quo can be beneficial. The award also highlights innovation in institutes,” said Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India.
IIT-Madras was previously awarded as the ‘Most Innovative Institution’ in the country in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Achievement in Innovation (ARIIA) in 2019 and 2020. The ARIIA Ranking was launched by the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education.
