Calcutta:
BJP Leader and Union Interior Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata after 1 a.m. Saturday on a two-day visit to take stock of his party’s affairs in West Bengal before the elections. to the Assembly to be held in the coming months.
In a tweet upon his arrival in Kolkata, he wrote: “I bow down to this revered land of greats like Gurudev Tagore, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee.”
There is much speculation that Suvendu Adhikari, who resigned his cabinet portfolios and the Trinamool Congress, may join the BJP during Shah’s visit along with a host of disgruntled TMC leaders, including some MLAs.
Shah will address a public rally in Midnapore on Saturday where several TMC leaders are likely to join the saffron party.
BJP head of state Dilip Ghosh has said that Shah and the party chairman JP Nadda will visit West Bengal every month until the assembly elections are over, probably in April-May.
Nadda was on a one-day visit to North Bengal in October and went on a two-day tour last week, while Shah was in the state for two days in November.
