Four people have been arrested for allegedly posting an online advertisement listing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Varanasi office for “sale,” police said Friday.
The defendants had taken a photo of Modi’s “Jansampark Kaaryalay (public relations office)”, which represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha, and put it “for sale” on the OLX website, they said.
The office is located in the city’s Jawahar Nagar town, and is within the boundaries of the Bhelupur police station, Varanasi Police Superintendent (SSP) Amit Pathak said.
“Yesterday, we learned that the prime minister’s office here has been put up for sale on the OLX website. An FIR was immediately filed at the Bhelupur police station, and the matter is being investigated, ”said Pathak.
“Four people involved in the case have been arrested,” the SSP said, adding that the person who took the photo and posted it on the website is among them.
The defendants are being questioned and further legal proceedings are underway, he said.
Prime Minister Modi, a four-time Chief Minister of Gujarat, was first elected to the Varanasi Lok Sabha in 2014 and then re-elected from the constituency in 2019.
