NEW DELHI: On Friday, the Supreme Court ordered states and UT to form committees to conduct fire safety audits of all hospitals, including exclusive Covid care facilities, every month.
He also said that each state must designate a nodal officer who will be responsible for fire safety in hospitals.
The supreme court also asked the central government to establish a guideline or design a mechanism to give rotating breaks to doctors and health personnel who have been working uninterruptedly since April.
Appearing for the Center, Attorney General (SG) Tushar Mehta said that the Center will make a decision on this issue within two days.
In November, a court of judges Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah learned of the incident of the fire at a Covid-19 hospital in Rajkot in which several patients had died.
The high court had requested a report from the Gujarat government on the fire accident.
SG Tushar Mehta had assured the bank that the Union Secretary of the Interior would convene a meeting and issue instructions on fire safety in government hospitals across India.
Five coronavirus patients died after a fire broke out in the ICU of a designated Covid-19 hospital in Gujarat’s Rajkot.
The bank had become aware of the need for adequate treatment of patients with Covid-19 and a dignified handling of corpses in hospitals.
