Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak about the “beneficial provisions” of the new agricultural laws in his address to Madhya Pradesh farmers as part of a Kisan Kalyan Sammelan on Friday. This comes a day after hundreds of farmers across the state started a walking march from Morena in support of farmers who have been protesting in Delhi for three weeks against the controversial farm laws implemented in September.
“Prime Minister Modi will address farmers in the state around 2 pm via video conference and explain in detail the beneficial provisions of the new agricultural laws,” an official from Madhya Pradesh’s public relations department told the PTI news agency on Thursday.
The prime minister’s speech will be broadcast live in 23,000 villages across the country and all the Madhya Pradesh district headquarters, the official said. The state government will transfer Rs 1,660 million to 35 lakh farmers accounts to make up for the loss of crops, he added.
Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will also attend Raisen’s program. “The previous state government led by Congress did an injustice to farmers by not transferring aid funds to their accounts. The previous congressional government did not even deposit Fasal Bima Yojna’s premium. But BJP is determined to work for the welfare of farmers. We have already deposited Fasal Bima Yojna’s premium and now we are going to transfer aid funds, ”said the prime minister.
The Kisan Kalyan program is being organized at four levels: gram panchayat, block, district, and state. About 20,000 farmers will participate in the statewide program in Raisen.
The Prime Minister’s speech comes against the background of thousands of Punjab and Haryana farmers protesting on the Delhi borders since November 27, demanding that the three agricultural laws – the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services Act 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020 – to be removed
