The exams will take place from March 17-30, in compliance with strict COVID-19 regulations, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Thursday.
Kerala has stated that the examinations of the Class 10 student board (SSLC) and of the Class 12 students (upper secondary and vocational upper secondary) studying in state government and government-subsidized schools will start from March 2021. The exams will take place March 17-30, in compliance with strict COVID-19 regulations, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Thursday. The decision was made at a high-level meeting chaired by the CM.
In a statement, the CM said that the Department of General Education will soon begin to take steps to conduct public tests. Classes for students who have practical exams will begin on January 1, he said. There will also be provisions for students to review and answer questions about classes taught online starting June 1. Steps will be taken for this at the school level to ensure that students taking the public exam are less stressed, including special tips and mock tests. To do this, students can approach schools with parental permission and teachers go to help students.
Previously, various teacher associations had approached the government to demand that at least informal classes be started for students in Class 10 and 12 who will sit for board exams. Health Minister KK Shailaja, Education Minister C Raveendranath, Higher Education Minister KT Jaleel, Public Education Secretary A Shahjahan were among those who participated in the high-level meeting.
It was on June 1 that Kerala started virtual classes for more than 40 lakh students from kindergarten to class 12, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual classes were streamed through YouTube and the state education channel Kite Victers.
Meanwhile, classes for graduate students and for final-year graduate students will begin the first week of January. Classes will be held with half the total force. Classes, if necessary, will be organized in morning and afternoon shifts. Classes for the agricultural and fisheries colleges will also begin in the first week of January, while those for the medical colleges will begin in the second week of January.
