NEW DELHI: Amid media reports of Khalistani terrorists trying to hijack the ongoing farmers’ protest against farm laws and expand their base in Punjab and other areas, the government is planning a massive crackdown on pro-Khalistan groups and NGOs. linked to them.
The decision in this regard has reportedly been taken by the Ministry of the Interior (MHA) in the light of reports received from the Punjab Police and the state and central intelligence agencies. The Interior Ministry wants to launch a massive investigation into the alleged foreign funding of pro-Khalistan groups and their sympathizers and various NGOs linked to them.
The central agencies will be ordered to accelerate their ongoing investigation into the alleged anti-Indian activities of the Khalistani terrorists and their sympathizers. As part of the plan, government agencies will monitor the activities of pro-Khalistan groups such as the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) investigation, Babbar Khalsa International, Khalistan Zindabad Force, Khalistan Tiger Force, etc.
Central government agencies such as NIA, ED, CBI, FIU and the Income Tax Department will be involved in the crackdown on the Khalistani teams. Central agencies will investigate foreign funding received by pro-Khalistani teams from the UK, Canada, the US, Australia, France and Germany in the recent past.
The decision to this effect was taken after a high-level meeting attended by senior officials from all central government agencies under the Ministry of the Interior. During the meeting, the alleged anti-India activities of the outlawed pro-Khalistan groups and their role in the farmers’ protest were thoroughly discussed.
According to sources, the government crackdown on pro-Khalistan organizations, NGOs and Khalistani terrorists will be similar to the action taken against Kashmir separatists and Pakistan-backed terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
In light of intelligence reports on Pakistan’s ISI helping pro-Khalistan teams, the central government wants to scuttle its K-2 (Khalistan-Kashmir) plan. It is recalled that several supporters of Khalistan had recently protested in front of the Indian embassy and missions in the UK, Canada and the US against the ongoing “peasant movement” in India.
These protests were organized by pro-Khlistn teams such as SFJ (Sikhs for Justice), Khalistan Zindabad Force, Babbar Khalsa International and Khalistan Tiger Force. The government had blocked 40 websites earlier this year in July linked to the pro-Khalistan Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) group, an illegal and banned group in India. The websites that have been blocked were being used by the organization to run a campaign to register supporters of its secessionist cause.
Based in the United States (USA), the SFJ had been pushing to hold a ‘Sikh Referendum 2020’ and had declared July 4 as the opening day for the registration of the group-organized referendum on Khalistan.
It should also be noted that previously the government had also imposed its strict Illicit Activities Prevention Amendment Act (UAPA) against nine Khalistani terrorists, including SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Other terrorists who had been slapped with UAPA include the head of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) of the United Kingdom (UK), Paramjit Singh, the Canadian head of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) Hardeep Singh Nijjar, German members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force ( KZF) Gurmeet Singh Bagga and Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, and four terrorists based in Pakistan.
