NEW DELHI: With the Department of Transportation whipping car owners who don’t have high security license plates (HSRP) or color-coded fuel stickers, Wednesday saw a large number of people trying to reserve spaces to post them. However, most complained that they were unable to reserve a space on the official website.
A department official said the website was hacked, causing the problem. Rosmerta Safety Systems Private Ltd, one of the HSRP manufacturers operating the website www.bookmyhsrp.com, filed a complaint with DCP, Cyber Crime Cell, Special Cell, Delhi Police.
A spokesman for the manufacturer HSRP said it received reservations for about 32,000 license plates on its website on Tuesday. “As on Tuesday, the site started operating normally on Wednesday. At 10 am, a denial of service was suddenly observed which resulted in an attempt to attack our domain, ”he said.
“A DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attempt was observed at www.bookmyhsrp.com and our IP domain name was assigned to compromise for an unauthorized attempt through international traffic with multiple virtual counts hitting the domain creating a fake high volume traffic overload, “he said. He added that the server was running since 4 pm.” There has been no data breach in this event. Also, our IT team has since improved the security of all web assets, ”he said.
“The complaint was received by email. As the allegations relate to the hacking of a website, we will search the server logs for the relevant period of the complainant company and proceed accordingly, ”said a police officer.
