JEE Main will be held 4 times to give students multiple opportunities: Minister

The joint (main) entrance examination, the test of eligibility for admission to the country’s best engineering universities, including prestigious IITs, will be conducted in four sessions spread over four consecutive months, the Minister of Education announced on Wednesday. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, adding that the new system will offer students the flexibility to appear on the exam and the opportunity to improve their scores later.
The first edition of the exam will take place under the new system from February 23 to 26, followed by rounds in March, April and May.

“We have reviewed feedback from students and various quarters and it has been decided that JEE-Mains will be held in four sessions in February, March, April and May … the first session will be held from 23 to 26 February and the results will be declared within five days from the last exam date, ”he said.

“The measure will ensure that students do not miss opportunities due to exam crash or due to the COVID-19 situation,” he added.
Explaining other changes to the test pattern, Nishank said students will have the option of answering 75 questions (25 of each in Physics, Chemistry, and Math) out of 90 (30 of each in Physics, Chemistry, and Math).

There will be no negative score on the 15 optional questions.
The National Testing Agency, the nodal body that conducts engineering and medical entrance exams, has decided to take the JEE in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Hate, Punjabi, Tamil , Telugu and Urdu.
The means of examination will be the native languages in the respective states; Hindi and English will be used in the rest of the country.

The decision has been made to provide multiple opportunities for students to improve their grades without missing an academic year.
“On the first try, students will get first-hand experience taking a test and will know their mistakes that they can improve on the next try. This will reduce the chances that students will drop a year (to improve their grades),” he said. Mr. Pokhriyal.
Previously, the Minister had said that there will be no changes to the syllabus for the NEET medical entrance exam or the JEE-Main engineering entrance exam next year.
