Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan confirmed his participation in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Monday, adding that he will announce the constituency he will compete for later.

“I will definitely compete in the next election, I will announce later about the constituency I will compete from,” said Makkal boss Needhi Maiam (MNM).

Haasan had launched MNM on February 21, 2018 in Madurai. The party is set to contest the next Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in April / May 2021.

On Sunday, Kamal Haasan began his four-day election campaign. In the first phase of the campaign between December 13-16, Haasan will cover the districts of Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanniyakumari.

The MNM had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections alone, but failed to make an impact. Despite the beating in the general election, Haasan recently claimed that his party has emerged as a third front in Tamil Nadu.

Launching Madurai as the second capital of the state, he said that his party will carry forward “the dream of Purachithalaivar MGR to establish Madurai as the second capital of Tamil Nadu.”

“It was the dream of Purachithalaivar MGR to establish Madurai as the second capital of Tamil Nadu. We will carry this dream forward. If MNM comes to power, Madurai will become the second capital of Tamil Nadu,” he said while addressing an audience gathering at a private lounge on Kamarasar Road in Madurai.

He added that the city got its name from the Madurai Revolution. “The MNM is politically people-centered. The youth of the MNM must go from house to house and meet people. The time has come for me to act, and the rule is ours and tomorrow is ours. The eradication of corruption is not It can be done by the individual, with the cooperation of the people surely corruption can be eradicated. We will eradicate corruption. “
