We rarely see two new models announced in the same year. That almost happened with the Nokia 2.2 and Nokia 2.3, which were announced with a gap of just 6 months. Nokia Mobile did better now and increased the timeslot, but managed to announce two Nokia 5 models in a single year, making 2020 the year of Nokia 5.
Although Nokia 6 or 7 was expected by many, Nokia 5.4 is the new affordable smartphone that will try to avoid the demographic and only target smartphone users who need a trusted companion for every day.
Nokia 5.4 is a combination of Nokia 3.4 and Nokia 8.3 5G as the phone combines the same 6.39-inch perforated HD + LCD screen as Nokia 3.4 has. Image stabilization, OZO spatial audio, wind noise cancellation and Cinema mode are all parts taken from a much more expensive Nokia 8.3 5G. The body design resembles the Nokia 3.4 design, which is nice, and the back cover comes in two beautiful color options with an interesting texture that Nokia 3.4 also has.
This phone’s strong suit is a 48 MP four-pixel main camera sensor, which lacks the ZEISS branding, but is still a nice improvement compared to the previous model. The rest of the camera module stayed the same with a 5MP UltraWide camera, 2MP depth, and a useless 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera was also increased from 8 MP to 16 MP, which makes the phone more useful for portrait selfies.
Nokia Mobile made a nice gesture by putting image stabilization, OZO spatial audio, wind noise cancellation on this model, as well as Cinema mode to shoot 21: 9 videos at 24 FPS and 60 FPS as well. Additionally, the camera shutter is brought to 0 thanks to some processing optimizations made by Qualcomm.
There we come to the most questionable piece of hardware, Qualcomm Snapdragon 662, which is being used for this smartphone. Many will think that this is a downgrade since Nokia 5.3 has SD 665, and that could be true. We are seeing basically the same processor made in 11nm, which has the same Adreno 610 GPU but is better optimized for power consumption, has better 3rd generation AI processing, lacks a bit of frequency, but scores better in Antutu and other benchmark tests. The only problem for me at the moment is that the Nokia 5.4 does not support the 5GHz WiFi spectrum, has an older BT 4.2, and still comes with a 10W load. The battery stayed the same, but 4000 mAh will do you just fine.

While Nokia 5.4 and 3.4 may look similar in shape, Nokia Mobile used a different color palette that is obviously inspired by the Finnish polar night. Nokia 5.4 will be available in Polar Night or Dark Blue in December and Dusk or Pink in January.
