NEW DELHI: Prime Minister of Delhi Arvind kejriwal Tuesday announced that the Aam Aadmi party will fight in 2022 assembly election in Uttar Pradesh which he said should become a developed state. At a press conference, Kejriwal said that Uttar Pradesh does not have good schools and hospitals and that people face an irregular power supply.
AAP formed a government in Delhi for the third time earlier this year, after winning the 2020 Delhi assembly elections by an overwhelming margin. AAP won 62 out of 70 seats, while eight seats went to BJP.
Arvind Kejriwal appeared to be pitching free electricity, world-class schools and hospitals as key subjects for UP polls, more than a year away. AAP will seek votes on the Delhi governance model.
The party formed an active state unit in Uttar Pradesh shortly after its creation in 2012. Kejriwal had fought against in 2014 Lok Sabha Surveys against Narendra Modi of Varanasi Lok Sabha and obtained the second highest number of votes.
In the 2017 UP assembly polls, the AAP campaigned against the BJP, but did not contest the polls. The BJP won 312 of the 403 seats in the assembly in a landslide victory and secured an easy majority in the 403-seat house. The Samajwadi Party finished a distant second with 47 seats.
