NEW DELHI: Twenty-two former Indian ambassadors on Monday he wrote an “open letter” to Canada warning against vote- banking policy.
The ambassadors, many of whom have worked in Canada, said that bilateral political equations often develop stress, due to the propensity of certain Canadian political parties and leaders to get involved in vote bank politics. “It is well known that separatist and violent Khalistani elements carry out anti-India activities from the safety of Canadian soil. They are also radicalizing Canadian youth with far-reaching consequences, which are being ignored at the altar of short-term political expediency, ”they said in the letter.
The envoys attacked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying that he had gotten “gratuitously” into the continuing protests of Indian farmers. “At home, encouraged by Canadian support, the protesters have hardened their stance, taking an ‘all or nothing’ approach. Such brazen interference in the internal affairs of India to appease a section of the Liberal PartyThe voter base is completely unacceptable and cannot help but cast a long shadow over bilateral relations, ”the letter says.
The envoys said Trudeau’s comments were unwarranted, disconnected from earthly realities and merely served to fan the flames.
