ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 Full Match Schedule Announced


The Basin Reserve in Wellington and the Hagley Oval in Christchurch will host the semi-finals with the latter also hosting the final under the lights on April 3, 2022.

An opening match at the Bay Oval in Tauranga and a final under the lights at Hagley Oval are two of the highlights of the 31-match schedule announced today for the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The peak event of women’s cricket will see 31 matches played over 31 action-packed days between March 4 and April 3, 2022, the first global women’s cricket event to be played since the T20 Women’s World Cup in Australia in March. The tournament was postponed from its original window in February-March 2021 with the same six host cities and venues held for 2022.

Eight of the world’s best cricket nations will meet in six host cities in Aotearoa: Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Highlights from the match schedule announced today include:

  • A spectacular opening match in Tauranga with the WHITE FERNS and a qualifying match on Friday, March 4. Tauranga is also hosting the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup final rematch at Lord’s with England versus India on Wednesday, March 16.
  • Dunedin University Oval, home of world superstar Suzie Bates, will host three group matches, with England, the reigning champions, city favorites, WHITE FERNS and South Africa on display.
  • Hamilton’s Seddon Park will host seven group games, with bitter rivals Australia and England kicking off the city games. India and South Africa will face off against the host nation’s WHITE FERNS in Hamilton.
  • The iconic Basin Reserve will host a Trans-Tasman showdown between Australia and New Zealand on Sunday March 13, as well as another five group matches and the first semi-final of the tournament.
  • A huge double headed weekend in Auckland will see India take on Australia on Saturday 19 March, before the WHITE FERNS take on England the next day.
  • Christchurch will host the final on April 3 under lights at Hagley Oval after three group matches and a semi-final.

The long-awaited Hagley Oval lights were first turned on by Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Grant Robertson in the announcement, with the attendance of key representatives from the Canterbury Cricket Trust, the Canterbury Cricket Association and the City of Christchurch.

Satterthwaite said: “As a born and raised Cantabrian, it’s great to see the Hagley Oval lights up and running. Playing a World Cup on our own ground here in Christchurch, under the lights, would be a real highlight in our career.

“It was difficult to watch the T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup from the sidelines in March (after giving birth in January), so watching the match schedule locked up for the ODI World Cup here in 2022 gives me and the rest of the team a goal to strive for as we prepare for the next 16 months. “

South Africa Captain Dane van Niekerk He says that playing in a World Cup will be a memorable occasion.

“Every time you have the opportunity to play for your country and wear the Proteas on your jersey it is an honor.

“I have been fortunate to have the opportunity before playing in a Women’s Cricket World Cup, but each new moment is more special than the last. Every young cricketer dreams of playing for his country at the highest level, and we are definitely looking forward to CWC22 in New Zealand, ”he said.

Mithali Raj, Captain India he also hopes to lead his team to a victory in the World Cup.

The 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be the first of two major cricket tournaments worldwide in 2022; the other will be the Commonwealth Games in England.

New Zealand, Australia, England, South Africa and India have qualified for the World Cup. The remaining three teams will exit the ICC qualifying tournament, which is confirmed to take place from June 26 to July 10, 2021 in Sri Lanka.

The eight-team round-robin format will see all teams play against each other, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
