“We want to wake up the government. Therefore, 40 leading farmers from our United Farmers’ Front will go on a hunger strike on all borders today between 8 am and 5 pm. 25 of them will sit on the Singhu border, 10 on the Tikri border and five on the UP border, ”Harinder Singh Lakhowal, secretary general of BKU (Punjab) told ANI news agency.
Monday marks the 19th day of farmers’ agitation against farm laws and Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal and workers from his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will also witness a hunger strike in solidarity with farmers. who protest. Farmers have been protesting what they call the three “black laws” since September, the month they were passed. Initially, they blocked the railroad tracks in Punjab and have been protesting on the borders of Delhi since November 26. The protesters say they want nothing less than a repeal and have repeatedly warned to “be prepared for the long term.”
In total, five rounds of talks have been held between the government and agricultural union leaders, including one each on December 1, 3 and 5. The sixth round of talks, scheduled for December 9, was called off after an “informal” meeting between the union. Minister Amit Shah and the agricultural union leaders, which took place the night before, were inconclusive.
