The ruling Congress in Rajasthan won 620, the BJP 548, and independent candidates won 595 of the total 1,775 district council seats in 50 urban local bodies whose results were declared on Sunday, according to an official with the State Election Commission.
Seven candidates from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), two from the CPI and CPI (M) and one from the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) also won in the ULBs distributed in 12 districts of Rajasthan, said the spokesman for the State Election Commission.
Up to 2,622 polling stations were installed for the elections. A total of 14.32 lakh voters were eligible to exercise their right to vote, while 7,249 candidates were in the fray.
The call for the election to the position of president in these local bodies will be issued on December 14. Voting for the office of president will take place on December 20, while for the office of vice president it will be held on December 21. .
