See the player ratings below.
Thibaut Courtois – 7.5: This game was not over-tested as the visitors were unable to enter the match. There is not much to say here. Big save at the end of the game to grab another clean sheet, which is a huge advantage.
Dani Carvajal – 7.5: He returned to the starting eleven and what a debut it was. He showed that he was ready to go back to the team and give it his all. Lingering threat tonight and he scored a great goal (albeit considered an OG of Jan Oblak). He finished with one shot and five tackles but with 84% completions. Subtitled after 78 minutes.
Raphael Varane – 7.5: He looked very comfortable tonight alongside Ramos, it’s great to see him play another 90 stable minutes. He did well under pressure in the area and did not concede a corner. Helped win another clean sheet. He finished with two tackles.
Sergio Ramos – 8: He leads his team to another very important victory. You could see the leadership and passion emulating from Ramos after each goal. Combined well with Varane at the rear to keep a clean sheet. He finished with three tackles and one shot.
Ferland Mendy— 7: A decent performance, but Mendy struggled with some of his passing and gave the ball several times. He also fought under pressure from some Atlético players. It ended with a tackle, a dribble and a shot.
Casemiro – 8: He scored the opening goal tonight and you could see exactly what it meant to him. He was instrumental in helping Real maintain possession, especially in the first half. It ended with an antenna won and a shot. He also won a yellow, which means he will miss the next match.
Toni Kroos – 8.5: Another master class in German. Key to Real’s dominance in the first half and helped the midfield look at the top of their game. On a side note, very lucky to get away with it without injuring his knee. He finished with a shot, a dribble, a passing win, two tackles, two key passes and 97% completions.
Luka Modric – 8: At the top of his game tonight. Crucial during Real’s performance in the first half and helped keep the team moving forward. It ended with two kills and two aerial duels won. Subtitled after 87 minutes.
Lucas Vazquez – 8: He moved up at the start, but eventually moved to the right-back position when Carvajal was substituted. Great shot to put Jan Oblak to the test in the last minutes of the match. He showed great awareness all night. He finished with six tackles and two key passes.
Karim Benzema – 8.5: Another great performance from the French. One of the best players on the field tonight and was influential in the team’s performance despite not being on the scoresheet. Great whereabouts tonight. Aim for Vazquez towards the end. He finished with three shots, a key pass and a tackle.
Vini Jr. – 7: He starts above Rodrygo, but he didn’t have much to show tonight. You need to get more involved in the attack and be confident in your abilities. I lost too much the ball tonight, but he was right to help the defense. He finished with one dribble and three tackles. Subtitled after 78 minutes.
Substitutes:
Marco Asensio – 6: He appears to be Zidane’s replacement, but he still needs to get more involved when he has time on the field. Expecting more from him.
Rodrygo – 6: He loses his place to Lucas Vázquez in the starting lineup, but he was the most involved substitute on the night. It ended with two tackles and a won aerial duel.
Fede Valverde – N / A: There is not enough time to win a qualification, but it is great to see him in action again.
