Include parliamentarians and legal advisers among priority groups for Covid-19 vaccines, Haryana writes to the center


Chandigarh: The Haryana government has written to the Center to make public representatives, including parliamentarians and MLAs, among the priority groups for COVID-19 vaccination once it starts, Health Minister Anil Vij said on Saturday.

He also said that the state government is making all the preparations in terms of building a database of priority groups, cold chain infrastructure; identification and training of vaccinators for the deployment of vaccination.

He said while those on the front lines of fighting coronavirus doctors, nurses, paramedics, etc. are on the priority list for vaccines, the Haryana Health Department has written to the Union Ministry of Health recommending that public representatives who come into contact with the masses during their work also be include in the list.

When asked if MPs, MLAs have also been recommended on this, Vij said by phone: “This includes all public representatives who are at risk of being exposed to the virus, including the police, staff from local bodies such as municipal and health workers, legislators and others. . “

In particular, the Haryana Assembly has 90 members, and the state sends 10 members to Lok Sabha and five to Rajya Sabha. Previously, the Union Ministry of Health had requested states to submit lists of priority population that will receive COVID-19 vaccinate first.

The priority population is classified as those with a higher risk of contracting the virus. Noting that it is natural to prioritize COVID-19 Vaccine distribution process, the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had previously said that priority would be given to health workers and people over 65 years of age.
