From hospitals dedicated to ‘Adverse Post Immunization Events’ (AEFI) to identifying specific vaccination sites to meet requirements for Covid inoculation, states are increasing infrastructure based on a ministry-issued SOP. of health.
According to the draft SOP shared with the states on Thursday, each vaccination site will have five vaccination officers, including a guard, and three rooms, one each for waiting, vaccination and observation.
People who should be monitored for 30 minutes after inoculation
Each person who receives the vaccine will be obligatorily kept under observation for 30 minutes to verify if there is AEFI and those who develop serious side effects will be transferred to the hospital identified by the state.
Dr. Rajani N, one of the immunization officers who attended the two-day workshop organized by the ministry, said: “The decision to have three rooms for vaccination takes into account the need for social distancing. While the vaccination room will only see one person enter at a time, the observation and waiting room will have seating for multiple people. ”
He said that given the limitations caused by social distancing, it has been decided that only 13-14 people will be given the vaccine every hour. “It has been decided, for now, that no more than 100 per day per site will be vaccinated given logistical limitations,” he said.
Of the five vaccination officers at each site, the guard will have the responsibility of verifying the names of the recipients on the list and ensuring appropriate Covid behavior. The other officers will verify government IDs, match it to the CO-WIN app, ensure recipient privacy, ensure there is a female attendant if a male vaccinator is on duty, allow safe injection practices, and help manage the waste.
