FDA Reports Facial Paralysis in 4 Volunteers for Pfizer’s Covid-19 Vaccine

A new report from U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulators revealed that four volunteers for Pfizer’s COVID-19 experimental vaccine developed Bell’s palsy after receiving injections of the vaccine, according to reports from the media.

Bell’s palsy is a condition that causes temporary paralysis of the muscles in the face. It can occur when the nerve that controls the facial muscles becomes inflamed, swollen, or compressed.

The FDA added in its report that it is unclear what caused Bell’s palsy in the four volunteers. According to media reports, FDA regulators have asked health experts to continually monitor volunteers who participated in the Covid-19 vaccine trials.

Previously, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla seemed to have doubts about the vaccine’s efficacy. During his interview with NBC’s Lestor Holt, he said: “I think this is something that needs to be looked into. We’re not sure about that at this point from what we know. “

This occurs when many countries, especially rich nations, compete with each other to secure Covid-19 vaccines for their population. According to previous reports, some countries, including Canada, the US, the UK, among others, have secured Covid-19 vaccines that are sufficient to inoculate their entire population multiple times, leaving lower-middle countries in a shortage.
