JEE-Mains will be held four times in 2021: Union Minister of Education

Exams are usually held twice a year.

The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE – Mains) will be held four times starting in February 2021. The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ made the announcement Thursday during an online interaction with teachers, parents and students on board competitive exams and exams. JEE-Mains are normally held twice a year.

The test will reportedly take place every month from February to May 2021 to give candidates enough flexibility. Candidates may choose to appear in one or all tests and the highest score among all appearances of the candidate will be considered for the ranking and admissions list. He also said that while the syllabus for the exam will remain unchanged, a proposal is being considered to allow students to answer 75 questions out of a total of 90 questions. During JEE 2020 (Mains), candidates had to answer 75 questions, 25 questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The JEE-Mains score is considered for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), various other engineering and architecture courses, and for eligibility to write JEE-Advanced. Candidates applying for a position in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) across the country are expected to pass JEE-Advanced.

In 2020, the JEE-Mains were held from September 1-6 across the country. Initially scheduled to take place in April-May, the exam was postponed until July due to the COVID-19 pandemic and finally until September. Although various stakeholders, including students and parents, petitioned the Supreme Court to postpone it further for security reasons, the Supreme Court refused to grant them any relief. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which is the regulatory agency that conducts the exams, assured the court that various arrangements will be in place to ensure that the exams are conducted without inconvenience to students. The NTA had told the court that the number of examination centers has been increased to ensure physical distancing between candidates, regular disinfection of facilities, staggered entry and exit of students, etc., have been organized to ensure that students do not contract COVID-19. .
