Around 50,000 doctors from the CAPF (central armed police force) will be among those who will receive the first round of Covid vaccines early next year under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior. CAPF chiefs have been asked to prepare a database of front-line medical workers from their units.
Thursday’s meeting, led by Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, was a continuation of the one held by the Prime Minister’s Office (and chaired by the Cabinet Secretary) in which it was decided that the Home Office would define “first-class worker line “, who have been given priority status to receive the vaccine when one is available, in consultation with the governments of the states and territories of the union.
A senior official at the meeting told NDTV that CAPF’s doctors and health personnel were on that list.
The officer said data related to “front-line workers” would have to be obtained from various sources, including police forces in union states and territories, the National Guard, and personnel from fire, civil defense and disaster management agencies. .
A second officer told NDTV they had been ordered to identify priority personnel and define deadlines and requirements.
Mr. Bhalla also asked CAPF chiefs to submit an “order of precedence” for vaccine delivery.
“A projection is being prepared on the number of doses required for doctors, soldiers and officers and also the order of precedence,” said an officer, adding that cold storage chains must also be identified as it was not feasible to complete the single-phase vaccination. .
“At the beginning of next year we will begin to vaccinate our men … because the background work must be ordered and that was the purpose of this meeting,” said a senior Interior Ministry official.
The CAPF force, which includes the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the National Force of Disaster Response (NDRF) and National Security Guard (NSG) is approximately 10 lakh.
