In the “largest” smuggling seizure in the drug case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the anti-narcotics agency, NCB, recovered hashish and millions of rupees in cash during raids at various locations in the upscale Andheri West area. in Mumbai, the sources said.
The agency also arrested missing drug supplier Regel Mahakal, on his long-time scanner, who provided information based on what further raids are taking place in the city.
The defendant whose locations are being raided is Regel Mahakala’s main drug supplier, the sources said.
“We arrested Regel Mahakal today and will present him in court. We cannot reveal his ties to Rhea Chakraborty and Showik,” said NCB area director Sameer Wankhede, who runs operations.
According to sources, Regel Mahakala used to supply drugs to another defendant, Anuj Keshwani, who was arrested in September. Keshwani allegedly supplied drugs to Rhea Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput.
Ms. Chakraborty and her brother, Showik, were recently released on bail after being arrested for acquiring drugs for Mr. Rajput, who was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June this year.
The multi-agency investigation into his death revealed drug conversations after which the NCB launched a separate investigation into the links. Since then, the agency has questioned and arrested many people linked to the Hindi film and entertainment industry, as well as drug suppliers.
Mahakal is connected to some Bollywood celebrities, NCB sources confirmed, adding that his arrest could unravel the entire supply chain in the entertainment industry.
