Kolkata, December 8: The BJP worker, who was killed at the party’s demonstration in Siliguri, died of shotgun wounds and the force does not use such a weapon, West Bengal Police said on Tuesday, dismissing allegations of shooting by its staff. The investigation into the death of BJP worker Ullen Roy at the party’s rally on Monday was turned over to the CID, he said.
“According to the PM report (post-mortem) ‘the death was due to the effects of the shotgun wounds’. The police do not use shotguns. It is obvious that during yesterday’s protest in Siliguri, armed people were brought in and shot with firearms, “the West Bengal police said in a tweet.
“The deceased received paddle wounds from a shotgun fired from up close by a person standing near the deceased in the protest program. This is unprecedented. Taking armed people to protest programs and inciting them to shoot is unheard of (sic)”, added. .
State police said there was an intention to create violence through the use of firearms and the CID has been asked to investigate.
“The truth will come out and strong measures will be taken against all those who planned and carried out the heinous crime,” he said.
However, the BJP alleged that the police fired a shotgun during the clash on Monday afternoon, resulting in the death of Roy.
