GHMC officials in Catch 22 situation for nalas development

Hyderabad: With the BJP winning more than 25 divisions in flood-affected areas during the recently concluded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, officials find themselves caught in a Catch 22 situation.

They are waiting for a signal from the state government to execute or not the Nala Strategic Development Plan (SNDP).

The government that develops the eastern parts of the city will be a double-edged sword. When the state government decided on the SNDP for this part of the city, its districts and districts were represented by TRS and MLA corporations in office. Now, however, BJP has gone on to sweep 25 divisions in the region, which are mostly flood-affected areas.

According to highly positioned sources, the project to expand and strengthen nalas will become a challenge. It was one of the main reasons for the BJP’s victory in the east. Sources say that if the project is not executed, the BJP will certainly make noise and blame the government for not expanding the nalas and strengthening them by eliminating the usurpations. If the government develops the drains, BJP will claim the credit and collect it in the 2023 assembly elections.

The state government is thus trapped between the devil and the depths of the sea. The new BJP corporations of Mansoorabad, Hayatnagar, BN Reddy Nagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hastinapuram, Champapet, Lingojiguda, Saroornagar, Rama Krishna Puram, Kothapet, Chaitanyapuri, Gaddiannaram, Ramanthapur, Habshig have already drafted and plan of action other divisions. the government and derive political mileage.

Sources say that since most of the employees reside in the LB Nagar and Uppal areas, their anti-government bias has become clear with the outcome of the elections. They too could speak out if the distribution of cash aid in flood-affected areas is not completed. This would be dangerous for TRS MLAs in LB Nagar and Uppal constituencies. They may no longer enjoy power in areas with the main opposition, the BJP, winning all the divisions in LB Nagar and few of them in the Uppal constituency.

The sources, however, maintain that development activities will run smoothly in the western, southern and northern parts of the city due to the unilateral verdict given to TRS and MIM.

Officials from GHMC, Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), and other nodal agencies are expected to only execute jobs granted to them by the state government. Officials say they are just executing agencies, it is up to political parties to decide where development activities should take place. They maintain that they are ready with the Rs. 250 crore SNDP project and are awaiting state government approval to execute it.
