On Tuesday, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani challenged the Congress party for backing a nationwide strike over farm laws, and challenged former party chairman Rahul Gandhi to differentiate between kothmir (coriander) and methi (fenugreek). .
Rupani was heading to a public function in Mehsana, northern Gujarat, after laying the foundation stone for a Narmada-based water supply plan and wastewater treatment plant in the region.
The CM said: “When the people of this country have discarded them, Congress and the opposition parties are ready to agitate on behalf of the farmers and deceive the people. Follow updates from Bharat Bandh LIVE
“I want to ask… Rahul Gandhi, if you can do it, answer me if what is the difference between kothmir (coriander) and methi (fenugreek). Otherwise, everyone knows his knowledge. “
Rupani also reminded Congress that the farm law provisions they oppose were part of their manifesto in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“Narendrabhai is really trying to solve the problems that have remained unsolved for years. At a time when Congress is proposing to make a political effort on behalf of farmers, I believe that Congress has not done anything to date for water, electricity, seeds, fertilizer, MSP… The BJP government has done it ” Rupani said.
Rupani also said that previous congressional governments in Gujarat used to provide financing to farmers at 18 percent interest rates. In contrast, he said, the BJP government is providing financing at a zero percent interest rate.
He also alleged that during the congressional governments in Gujarat, no agricultural produce was being purchased at the minimum support price (MSP). “In the last three years, my government has bought agricultural products worth Rs 15000 crore in MSP and it is also happening in the current year,” Rupani said.
He also referred to the recently launched plan by the Gujarat government, Kisan Suryoday Yojana, to provide 24-hour power for agricultural purposes in Gujarat.
