Remember when Apple dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack and was mocked by many Android phone makers for the decision, just to follow suit in a few years, including Samsung? Well, here we go again.
It has already been rumored that Samsung was considering shipping the next Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 +, and Galaxy S21 Ultra without a charger or headphones in the box, but when we heard this in October, a final decision had apparently not been made yet.
Meanwhile, the trio have been certified for sale in Brazil by Anatel, the country’s regulatory agency, and guess what? There is an explicit notice that phones will not be shipped with a charger or headset. The screenshot below shows the relevant text in Portuguese.
And so, once again, Apple seems to have started a trend in the mobile world. Undoubtedly, like Apple, Samsung will try to sell this as something related to reducing environmental waste, but we assume that it really doesn’t hurt that companies are left with a few more pennies in profit from every phone sale in the future, money that would otherwise have been spent on such included accessories. Get ready for a new day and a new dawn, as they say. The mobile industry is undergoing another restructuring.
For what it’s worth, Anatel tested the S21 phones with two different chargers, both 25W, which may mean that’s the maximum capacity supported. Samsung will happily sell you one of those separately, of course, as well as the Galaxy Buds Pro true wireless earbuds, which are expected to debut alongside the S21 family at the same event in mid-January.
