Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 12 at the end of April in China. Since then, the company has been pushing the update in the form of beta and stable versions around the world. Now, eight months later, the firm silently reveals that Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A will not be updated to MIUI 12.
One month after the MIUI 12 Chinese launch conference, Xiaomi held a separate online event for global markets. At the end of this event, the company revealed the full list of the smartphones they will get MIUI 12.
The list included almost every device that was released in the last two years. Thus, Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6Y Redmi 6A they were part of it. But, unfortunately, Xiaomi removed these four phones from the eligibility list after seven months from their publication.

The company claim (is that these devices will not be updated to MIUI 12 due to ‘compatibility and performance issues’.
For those who don’t know, MIUI 12 on Xiaomi, RedmiY LITTLE BIT Smartphones differ by model. Not all devices support all features, and the availability of certain features also differs by region. Because MIUI is a heavy Android skin like any other Chinese mobile UI, it requires more horsepower.
This is the main reason why vivo OriginOS is limited to the flagship, as well as to certain mid-range smartphones.
That being said, these four Redmi phones have been known for their performance issues since their launch. Having personally used the Redmi 7 with MIUI 10 Y MIUI 11, I know pain.
But still, it’s terrible that these Xiaomi global best-sellers have only received a single MIUI and Android updates. Also, the latest update (Android 10) is yet to be implemented globally for Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3.
