HOW DID SHARMILA AND TIGER BECOME?
Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (Tiger Pataudi) were made for each other. And in 1965, the two realized the same thing when they first met through a mutual friend. At the time, Sharmila knew everything about Nawab Of Pataudi, but Tiger had little idea about Sharmila’s career and had never seen any of her movies. Still, he had fallen in love with her from the moment they met. But it was not easy to woo the Bengali beauty.
WHEN TIGER SENT 7 REFRIGERATORS TO SHARMILA’S HOUSE
Being his charming self, Tiger managed to make a lasting impression on Sharmila in their first meeting, but the actress was still unsure of him. In an interview with Lallantop, Soha Ali Khan (Sharmila and Tiger’s daughter) revealed that to provoke a reaction in Sharmila, Tiger sent 7 refrigerators to her home.
Soha said: “Abba, Amma ek film party mein mile. Abba liked Amma, she was very beautiful, she still is. He tried to chase her, but Amma was not giving bhaav. She was a bit insecure. So Abba sent 7 refrigerators in Amma’s house to get some kind of reaction from her. So Amma called him and asked “What’s going on?” That’s how it started.

WHEN SHARMILA LEFT WITH TIGRE WITHOUT LUGGAGE
This spontaneity of Sharmila and Tiger’s relationship went on for years. In an old interview, Sharmila had revealed that she and Tiger were very impulsive. They made impromptu decisions while they were dating and that continued even after they got married in 1969. They followed each other around the world just to spend some quality time together. However, everything slowed down after the birth of their first child, Saif Ali Khan.
Sharmila, taking a look at their whirlwind of romance, said in the interview: “I was filming at Panvel and Tiger was going to Ahmedabad. So I thought, ‘Let me go to the airport to say goodbye to him.’ And I made my driver drive really fast. I got to the airport and he was getting out of his car. So, I said goodbye to him and he asked, ‘What are you doing?’ He asked me to go with him and I left. I had no clothes or anything, I just went. I was very much in love. “
She added: “We did impulsive things all the time, but it all had to stop when Saif came along.”
HOW DID TIGER SET UP?
Sharmila was caught off guard when Tiger proposed to her. In the interview, Sharmila revealed that before formally proposing to her in Paris, Tiger told his mother that he and Sharmila had decided to get married. She said: “We went to meet Amma and there she announced that he and I had decided to get married. She didn’t tell me, but she announced it there. Then she formally proposed in Paris.
Sharmila continued to work even after marrying Tiger, which was not the case for her contemporaries. In fact, two of his biggest hits, Aradhana and Amar Prem, came after Saif’s birth.
After living together in a beautiful marriage for 42 years, death separated them on September 22, 2011, when Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi breathed his last. Sharmila and Tiger’s progressive and timeless love story inspired many and continues to do so.
