Millionaire overnight! MP Farmer finds diamonds worth Rs 60 lakh on land he leased for Rs 200

Bhopal: A farmer from Panna, Madhya Pradesh, had a great stroke of luck when he stumbled upon a 14.98-carat diamond on a small piece of land that he had rented for just Rs 200. The 45-year-old farmer identified himself as Lakhan Yadav, who a few days ago was just a fringe farmer, has now become a millionaire overnight, thanks to this miraculous find. According to The Times of India, Lakhan Yadav found the diamond when he was collecting his dirt last month. Initially, he thought it was just another pebble, but when he dusted it off, it started to glow. To confirm his suspicions, he took it to the district diamond officer to find out if it really was a real diamond.

And went! The diamond was auctioned on Saturday for Rs 60.6 lakhs, which made him rich overnight. However, the farmer does not want anything fancy and just wants to ensure a good education for his four children. He said he will put most of the money in a fixed deposit.

“I will not bet on anything big. I am not an educated person and I will put the money in a fixed deposit to ensure that my four children receive a good education, ”Yadav told TOI.

Yadav now bought himself a motorcycle with the first lakh of rupees he got after depositing the diamond with the district administration.

“I hope to get another diamond. I’ll work on it for a few more months, maybe they’ll renew the lease, ”he said.

This is not the first incident in which a farmer has found diamonds in the fields. In a similar story, a worker became a millionaire overnight when he unearthed three diamonds worth 30 to 35 lakhs of rupees at a diamond mine in Panna. Panna, which is otherwise in a backward region, is world famous for its diamond mines.
