Life has come full circle for Vijayashanthi. The veteran actress and politician, who has been shooting the BJP for almost two years, finally returned to the party that nurtured her as a politician. Vijayashanthi has made it clear that his intention is to overthrow the TRS and seek revenge against the party chief and Telangana Prime Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). She has said that the reason she joined the BJP was the inability of Congress to fight KCR.
Vijayashanthi, in the presence of BJP National Secretary Arun Singh, Telangana Chief Bandi Sanjay, and Union Minister Kishan Reddy officially joined the party on Monday. On Sunday evening, Vijayashanthi met with the Union Interior Minister and former BJP National President Amit Shah.
Addressing the media, he opened up about the mistreatment he allegedly suffered at the hands of KCR and the events that led to his suspension from the TRS party. She alleged that KCR suspended her “early” from TRS in 2013, when Congress announced the formation of Telangana, and spread even more rumors that the actor had left the party on his own.
The former congressman alleged that KCR had systematically eliminated all leaders who genuinely fought for the cause of Telangana’s statehood so that these leaders would not emerge as a threat to his family. “He conspired and drove away the party people who were selflessly fighting for the state. He remained unopposed. But, today the BJP has emerged as a party that can teach you lessons. The party has shown that in the Dubbaka by-election and the GHMC election, ”said Vijayashanthi.
He added that the BJP would form a government in 2023 by dethroning KCR and his family. Speaking about why she merged her Talli Telangana party with TRS, the veteran actress said that during the statehood movement, she was pressured to join TRS and fight for the cause.
Vijayashanthi enjoyed a superstar image alongside characters like Megastar Chiranjeevi and other top stars in Tollywood. In fact, she is among the first female actors to demand pay on par with male leads.
In 1998, he began his political career with the BJP and later formed his own party, which fought for the separate cause of the state of Telangana. This party eventually merged with TRS. Following her suspension from TRS, Vijayashanthi joined Congress in 2014 and assumed the position of Chairperson of the Telangana Congressional Campaign Committee (TPCC).
Meanwhile, Congress appears to be in deep crisis, as in addition to Vijayashanthi, Congress treasurer Gudur Narayan Reddy also sent his resignation to the party’s interim president, Sonia Gandhi, on Monday. Reddy is likely to join the BJP as well. There is also speculation that another congressional leader, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, will join the BJP.
“While Vijayashanthi doesn’t bring anything meaningful to the table, being a popular movie star, he certainly draws a crowd. The BJP could use it to draw in crowds and reinforce its image. They are using this strategy everywhere, even in Andhra Pradesh where actor Pawan Kalyan is doing this work. This is a new way of winning the elections under Modi-Shah, where the BJP is pragmatic in its approach and not only looking for compromised party ideals, “observed political analyst T Lakshminarayana.
